Everyone is Sick & Grumpy

Posted by on February 7, 2014

Well, it finally happened — I caught a cold and so did my kids. Considering all of the illnesses that have been going around this winter, I should be grateful it took this long to catch one. The problem is what to do about it?

We have all heard that antibiotics don’t help the common cold. Rest and fluids are best.  How do I get my kids to understand that, or me for that matter?  Here I am at work, thinking maybe if I can make it through the day I’m not actually sick. My office coworkers are not appreciating my sneezing, coughing, and runny nose. They think I should be home, resting. If I went home, chances are I would start cleaning.
My kids and I share similar symptoms, so you’d think we could take the same products for relief. Never works that way. My daughter (age 8) will try liquid tinctures and cough syrups. My son (age 4) prefers stuff he can chew.  He’s the kid who crunches on cough drops. Both of them like sweet. I like good old herbal tinctures, regardless of the taste.
Here is what we buy:
There are so many great cold relief products out there, it can be hard to choose. My best advice is to buy something you or your family members will actually take. My kids have taught me that.
